Carol Competition
Rules:
- The Carol should be between 5-12 minutes long
- Text can be own words or from The Oxford Book of Carols
- It can be written for any kind of choir (eg SATB, SSA) but should not be in more than 6 vocal parts
- It can use instruments- forces should be modest, but a full range of brass band instruments is available (Black Dyke are playing in the concert and may be willing to consider performing the winning carol)
- Deadline for submissions is Saturday 10th October
- Judging will be by an external panel of judges
- Feedback will be given on all entries
- The carol should be submitted with no name on the score (apart from the author of the text if appropriate). It should be in a sealed envelope together with a piece of paper with the composer’s name written on it. All entries will thus be judged anonymously
- Current and former students of Sheffield Music academy are eligible to enter
FIRST PRIZE will be £100 plus a performance in the City Hall Sheffield by either the Academy or the Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus.
SECOND PRIZE will be £50 with a performance by the Academy at one of their concerts.
THIRD PRIZE will be £25 with a performance by the Academy at one of their concerts.
