We are looking to enrol students from a variety of musical backgrounds; you may already have qualifications and you might not, but if you have passion and dedication we want to hear from you.

Sheffield Music Academy is open to students currently aged 8 to 15 who want to make the very best of themselves musically.

Selection will be by an audition process which will be informal and friendly. We will be searching for a combination of potential and enthusiasm as much as achievement. Graded exam standards are not necessarily a good guide to entry: if in doubt, ring and discuss this with the Director

Audition Process

Candidates will be invited to an informal audition with the Director and other members of staff. They will be expected to play or sing two pieces on each of their instruments; ideally on piece that is still ‘work in progress’ and one piece that reflects the best standard a candidate can achieve. There may also be some aural tests, sight-learning and a discussion about the music presented.

We would like to hear from candidates about their likes and dislikes, their aspirations and what they would like the Academy to do for them. We aim to make the auditions a friendly and positive experience and we will communicate our decisions as quickly as possible.
